Renovation Project Spotlight: The Lost Colony

At Mueller Builders, we’re proud to be part of projects that carry both craftsmanship and history—and our recent work at The Lost Colony is exactly that.

Located on Roanoke Island, The Lost Colony is one of the nation’s longest-running outdoor symphonic dramas, bringing history to life along the beautiful sound-side setting. Being trusted to contribute to this iconic site is something our team doesn’t take lightly.

Roofing Improvements Across the Property

Our scope of work included re-roofing several key buildings and station structures throughout the property. These upgrades not only improve durability and weather resistance but also help preserve the integrity of the site for seasons to come. Coastal environments can be tough on materials, so installing reliable, high-quality roofing systems was a top priority.

Cedar Pavilion Transformation

One of the standout elements of this project is the large cedar pavilion. With its natural wood structure and open-air design, it’s a centerpiece of the grounds. Our team is currently in the process of shingling this space, carefully balancing performance with aesthetics to complement the existing architecture.

Sound-Side Stage Work

Another exciting component is the stage located along the sound. This area plays a major role in performances, and we’re working to ensure it’s protected with a roofing system built to withstand coastal conditions—while still blending seamlessly into the scenic backdrop.

Built to Last, Designed to Respect History

Projects like this require more than just construction expertise—they require respect for the environment, the history, and the experience of the visitors who come each year. Every detail matters, and our team is committed to delivering work that supports both function and legacy.

We’re honored to play a role in preserving and enhancing such a meaningful landmark and look forward to seeing these improvements support many more seasons at The Lost Colony.
